Girlhood

I wanted to create a series that was inspired by the idea of "girlhood”, a mutual experience girls have as they grow up. I wanted to convey a feeling of nostalgia in my photos, which will support the idea of relating one's past self to the present. "Girlhood” is a feeling of satisfaction and freedom knowing that you haven't forgotten where you came from. The clashing ideas of healing your inner child and never losing your juvenile, positive way of seeing the world. As an aesthetic, "girlhood” is playful, frilly, and feminine.

My Inspiration.

In my film photography project, I aim to capture the essence of girlhood through a lens, delving into the nuanced emotions and experiences that shape this pivotal stage of life. Guided by a desire to encapsulate the innocence, curiosity, and resilience inherent in girlhood, each frame tells a story, weaving together a narrative that celebrates the multifaceted nature of growing up.

Drawing inspiration from the candid moments, subtle gestures, and unspoken bonds that define girlhood, my project is a visual exploration of the universal and unique aspects of this transformative journey.

By using the medium of film photography, I intentionally introduce a timeless quality to the images, echoing the enduring spirit of girlhood across generations. The grainy textures and warm tones evoke a sense of nostalgia, inviting viewers to reflect on their own memories of youth and fostering a connection that goes beyond the immediate visual impact.

Through this project, I aspire to foster a deeper understanding of girlhood, challenging stereotypes and celebrating the diversity of experiences that contribute to the memory of growing up. It is my hope that each photograph resonates with authenticity, inviting viewers to empathize, reminisce, and appreciate the profound beauty inherent in the journey from girlhood to womanhood.
